Lipedema Treatment
Lipoedema is also called ‘painful fat syndrome’. It is an abnormal swelling due to accumulation of fat and fluid in the buttocks, thighs, lower legs and sometimes arms. The swelling is symmetrical, painful when pressed and bruises easily. The feet are not swollen. Almost all patients are women and there is also genetic transmission. There are publications indicating that 11-18% of female patients are seen in Western societies.
It occurs around puberty, diet and sports are insufficient, these are only important in postoperative supportive treatment. Lipoedema is a progressive disease, when it reaches the last stages, lymphedema is added to this picture and surgery is no longer recommended.
When women with lipoedema gain weight, the condition worsens or when they lose weight and see no change in their legs, psychological stress, anxiety, depression and social isolation problems arise.
While classical liposuction is effective in reducing normal adipose tissue, VASER-assisted liposuction, which minimizes damage to veins and lymph vessels, is a much better choice to reduce lipedematous tissues. In addition, since a large amount of fat will be removed from certain areas, the skin should also be tightened in the same session with these technological devices.
Normal liposuction does not provide such a benefit. With VASER, fat is melted and removed during surgery, the desired contour is given to the body and theoretically, since the fat is melted, the risk of embolism is minimal or non-existent. Since capillaries can be protected more during the application, a larger amount of fat can be reduced.
